I was honoured to be invited to participate in the 10th Biennale Internationale du lin de Portneuf, in Quebec.
The biennale “showcases the works of artists whose practice is generally but not exclusively associated with the visual arts, craft or design. The artist agrees to work with linen/flax or develop artistic concepts that demonstrate a strong relation to it”. The theme for 2023 was “No Fixed Abode”.
With my submission, “Vale of Tears”, I hope to draw attention to the plight of LGBTQ people around the world who are shunned by their families. Far too often they experience homelessness, addiction and emotional and physical abuse. The disturbing increase in anti-queer rhetoric makes this subject even more critical.
